Three hours sleep and 36 nautical miles

Sarah Outen and Justine Curvengen kayaking on the Thames

We’ve just had a brief update from Sarah and Justine who have had made it to about halfway between Whitstable and Margate on their paddle eastwards.

“Pasta tea beside the sea under gorgeous pink and purple sunset. Arrived at Reculver, east of Herne Bay at 6.30pm. Paddled Gravesend to Sheerness 3am-8am. Slept 3hrs then 1.30pm – 6.30pm here. 36nm total.”

They’ve been timing their kayaking to coincide with the tides which has meant some hours in the boats that might not normally sit well with a circadian rhythm. Depending on weather and progress they will aim tomorrow for Ramsgate or Dover. From there it will be across to Calais when the weather is right.
