The year that will be

Make it happen. Only you can.

Jumping into the sunrise and the new year…

This email from Malcolm is a great call to arms for anyone, whatever your hopes and goals are for the year ahead. I thought I’d share the good energy and hope that it might give you the boost to start or the courage to keep going with challenges and dreams.

Have a great one, whatever adventures you are pursuing – metaphorical or physical. And do stick with L2L for the Pacific adventure ahead. We are now T-71 days until I fly to Japan and even less until we ship Happy Socks. All is well and good with the two of us and I am excited. We still have more finance to find (get in touch if you’d like to sponsor a piece of kit etc) and there is a typically and expectedly long To Do List, but we are getting there and will make it.

Bring. It. On.

All best,

Sarah

‘Well Sarah mi’ duck,
This is the end of 2012 and I have covered a total of 145,600 feet of ascent and over 2500 miles walking Bardon Hill this year.
The year 2013?  Proper mountains, cycling  and sea-sailing again, I hope. Anyway, I’m ready to have another try at
going back and doing the things I previously could and did.
I reckon if a 75 year old, exam-failing, eccentric amateur can give things another go, then a nice brave young lady like
you stands a chance for 2013 and beyond.
Happy New Year,
Malcolm
Looking back, looking forwards...

  1. Sarah,
If you need funding and sponsorship reach out to Sir Richard Branson, Sir Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, The Rolling Stones…

    Wow Go Malcolm 🙂

Sarah as always it’s easier to observe adventure from a distance than to get stuck in and get your hands dirty but from following you over the years I have a strong feeling that you’re the kind of girl that prefers to get your hands dirty.

    Go Sarah 🙂

Sarah Janet and I have dined out long enough on the story that saying our two hesitations about cycling across Canada with you, not being able to keep up plus fear of bears, we’re the very reason you invited us. But since Xmas we have just clocked up 700klm cycling Albany to Perth. We feel strong and wonder when canada is on?

    Need a goal. Let’s know.

Team Dark Energy – ahoy and ahoy! And to think it’s four years since Freo and Dippers…

Would love you to be bear fodder for the ride. It will be the winter of 2013/14 i.e back end of this year into the next – and that’s as specific as I can be right now.

Great going with Albany to Perth – happy days,

Love to RPYC and all who sail in her.

      Sx

The start of a new year can cement commitment, but it is only a point position on our trip around the sun. I’d rather bet on the self-created life force of a particular girl. This girl handles fear (*courage*), stomps her foot down (*conviction*), and always goes for the laugh (*looks on the bright side*). She does the math (*prepares*) and endures the pain (*put-up-ability*). She looks around her (*lives the moment*) and also thinks of others (*charity*). Yes, I’d rather bet on this girl. I’m more sure of her than of the Earth going around the Sun.

Happy new year Sarah! Thank you for sharing your beautiful journey srories. This is my first time to visit your blog and I learn something useful from you.I wanna say thank you.I hope you will have a unforgettable journey in this new year~~

  6. MALCOLM says:

    Dear Sarah,
I subsequently rechecked this with an accurate altimeter and the total ascent is 150,000′.
Some months ago I thought I would resume the sailing again as well and decided to go to our local splendid and welcoming Hermitage (Whitwick) swimming pool as part of the sensible preparation.
I put far too much uncontrolled effort into it and temporarily knackered my back.
I am now on the mend and rephasing in the cycling as the appropriate and remedial activity.
I will also return to the pool of course but with a little more sense this next time.
    Malcolm August 2016.
