Seablog: Under a peachy sunset

A grand day here, without a single squall or shower. Just sunshine and blue skies, with a whisper of a wind. It is swinging, with a front on its way. Happily, Ricardo has assured me the contrary winds will be short-lived, with another happy high pressure system ready to slot into place. This should provide ten days at least of decent mileage. Good news indeed. The Rum Punch Campaign should be a wee bit swifter from here on, for we are in the final weather sector, with more favourable, stable winds. Rock on July, we like the sound of that.

I must go and bag the next degree – five miles and two hours row away, under a setting sun. You should try it sometime – a lovely way to spend an evening.

Until tomorrow ,

🙂 Wonderful news, so glad weather improving after the horrors you’ve had. Have you got another pair of sunglasses? See you soon-er!

    Hi Sarah
You make it sound idyllic (well, except for the hardwork/rowing bit!)
You’ve done fantastically so far – not long now!

hi sarah, july seems to be answering the call,we have similarly idyllic weather right now, regret the boating lake shuts at five but i can cross a degree as the greeenwhich meridian passes through cleethorpes so a very poor estimation of your achievement is possible albeit in two parts and with next to no effort on my part(no wonder i can’t get any sponsorship!)
best regards to you and dippers

Good news! While you were wishing for high pressure systems we seem to be swamped by then – not so great for sailing (especially when you’re a fairly heavy crew)! D’oh!

    Bring on the rum punch!

God Speed and Chocolate must be alsmost melting in the fine weather?

  6. Godfolkes says:

Certainly happier now you have given up the fancy work on your tracker – the straight line looks a lot healthier! Keep up the hard work as I know you will. All love xx

The first boat from the Indian Ocean Rowing Race came in after 68 days 19 hrs & 40 m.
In second position is the “Ocean Angels” team with the four ladies expected to come in this saturday.(72 days). A new world record and collecting £50,000 for Breast Cancer Care.
No news from the team “Rowing for Prostate” but the organisers believe that they are having communication problems.

    Hi Sarah,

Good luck! I’m the British High Commissioner in Mauritius and was once a keen (but rubbish) rower so I’m following your adventure with amazement. What is your favourite food? We’d love to cook you dinner when you get here.

    Keep going…..

    John

    Sarah,
Lovely offer there from the B.H.C.. Hope you take him up on it in style and not like some death row inmates over here who when offered anything they wish for a last meal order a peanut&jelly sandwich, or a Bigmac.
Is the final sprint in sight? I love watching your once so squiggly tracking line becoming all resolute, straight and purposeful. Looks like a snake uncoiling, and reaching out to give Mauritius a bite!
    3 cheers!

  11. Diana says:

Well done Sarah- wishing you the fairest weather and a beautiful evening over the next line- wouldn’t it be fun if they were real lines and made of chocolate. We are celebrating a super warm day in the cotswolds and our blackbirds have hatched today (three little mouths we can see) and we are watching a live camera feed from the nest in our garden on our TV- much more fun that tennis. Thinking of you every day. Diana

Hi Sarah – tis really exciting following your progress and can’t wait to see you when you get back. It’s so cool to read your blog on a daily basis – I never realised we’d get updates along the way.

Am amazed by the offer from the B.H.C. so make sure you take him up on the offer – wish i was going to be there when you arrive.

    xxx
