Not much to report about today – wind is taking longer to back than I hoped, so we’re heading further North than I would like but, heyho, we’re still inching West and…we passed the ‘900 miles to row’ sign early this morning. So we are getting there, slowly but surely. I don’t want to take anyone by surprise, you see – if I suddenly rock up on a beach in M next week, per se, it might upskittle everyone. In fact, in spite of various sore bits and protests from different appendages and joints, we’re having a marvellous Day 98. The sun is shining, so batteries are juicing up nicely, I found a pepperami and hunted out three bars of chocolate – and yesterday I returned to a happy state of equanimity with regard to the wiggly course of late. The wind will back in its own dear time, and I will be all the more happy about it’s helping with some of the leg work when it does.
And of course, it’s only two more sleeps until the Day 100 celebrations on Thursday…A bottle of beer and a whole bag of minstrels. I am very surprised, and just a little proud, that I have managed to save this bag of chocolatey goodness all this time.
Just a quick note about said minstrels and some folks’ desire to eat a bag in solidarity with me: A true show of solidarity will be to eat the entire bag (and its a proper family one, not a poxy snack size) in one sugary sitting. For that is what I shall do!

PS
Jane Spence -Photos didn’t work from this end I’m afraid-somethiing has gone wrong with the software it seems. Just airbrush off of my pre-row blubber, add muscles, a good suntan, more freckles and make my hair shaggy and golden.
Xtina – Just don’t go cutting the minstrels up like you did with the mars bar!
Claire C – Initial soakings and rinse in seawater, final rinse is freshwater and I use organic aloe vera & citrus shampoo so the Tweedles approve!
Jamie & Emily – Had another cornish pasty crave earlier…
Off to buy the minstrels in preparation now – lizzie tried to tell me they sell small bags but i explained the error of her ways! xxx
Here at Natracare we will all be celebrating your one hundred days adventure with organic chocolate buttons, sorry minstrels, not our bag of choc but with you in sentiment at least Sarah. Trouble is that everyone here are experts at downing large volumes of the chocolate stuff in single sittings, so not much of a challenge to match yours, but a good excuse to eat large amounts of chocolate is cheered together with your accomplishments to date. Better go and do some stretching in preparation for the bag opening. Susie H x
When you say ‘eat the entire bag’, I assume you mean the contents only? I’m happy to join in with your 100 day celebration but there’s a limit you know! 🙂
I am writing to you to introduce SRS Mermaid, the only virtual Sea Ranger Crew. I am the Skipper of the crew which is now in it’s third year. The girls have been following your progress – we have a link to your website from ours. They wanted you to know they the Cadets (9-14 years) won the National Regatta on Sunday, ably aided by the chocolate from Lizzie’s Tuck shop! Only a small feat compared to yours, but a start in the right direction.
As far as I know they don’t sell minstrels in Bonn, but I will go out and buy what gets closest to it, joining you in your 100 day celebration. You’re doing an amazing job, despite winds, waves and all that. Keep up the positive thinking and I do hope you have plenty more food (and chocolate) to keep you going!! Dagmar

For the benefit of us dumb “YANKS” Exactly what are Minstrels???????? Anything like a Hershey’s Kiss????
All this talk about Chocolate got me thinking, and I haven’t sent you any poetry lately. So I found you a web site full of poems about chocolate. http://www.poemhunter.com/poems/chocolate/
You mentioned MARS bars….. In the early 90s I worked as a volunteer for RED CROSS on a flood in Albany Georgia USA Home of one of the big MARS factories.
We were stationed at a Baptist church and used their GYM floor as a warehouse for the food we were distributing to various locations as well as doing mobile feeding for people cleaning out their flooded homes.
One day a huge tractor trailer truck From MARS pulled in and the driver wanted to know where to unload the 80,000 Pounds of MARS, MILKY WAYS, SNICKERS, M&Ms, KIT KATS. 80,000 POUNDS
I asked if the driver wasn’t looking for our large ware house on the other side of town, but he said they had sent him to us.
We put our entire crew to unloading and stacking 80,000 pounds of chocolate into what was now looking like a tiny Gym floor. Good thing we had a fork lift. And thank the powers that be for Air conditioning.
We had the truck mostly unloaded when we decided we needed a break. The truck driver said, “Well you better make it quick, the OTHER truck will be here soon.” THE OTHER TRUCK?????????????
Sarah, I doubt even you couldn’t eat 160,000 pounds of chocolate.
Promise ~ I will NOT go cutting my Minstrels into Mars bar slices ~ just wait to hear what will be Happening in THE Non Stop Party Shop down town Horsham, where i will be working ~ on your 100th day ~ I will be opening and eating a family size bag of Minstrels, sharing this sugary sitting with my work colleagues.
And no Pete we are not eating the bag!!
xtina
I just contacted the MARS company and told them of your efforts in the name of Arthritis research, and of your love of chocolate (including MARS bars) and suggested they contact you and donate. Wanna be in a MARS Ad????
As you can imagine we will have no difficulty in helping you to celebrate your 100 days – pity I will have to eat Ws share as well – what a hardship!!! Do hope you get your favourable wind soon – still cant get over how lovely it was to hear from you on Sunday and we cant wait to give you the hugs in person. Our love. x
Hi Sarah,
We’ve finished for summer now but we’re still checking your progress from home and will up date your board in Beaufort at the end of August. I think it’s wise to take things slowly – an unexpected arrival might result in them asking you to go round again! I’ll join in the 100 days celebration but I’m not sure about the minstrels – would it be OK to just have another beer instead? Fingers crossed for a more favourable wind.
Malcolm
