While on her solo row across the North Pacific Ocean, Sarah has been hit by the tropical storm, Mawar and her boat, Gulliver, has rolled on several occasions. The boat has been damaged, the extent of which is as yet unknown. The team has however spoken to Sarah and she is safe and doing well.
Following an emergency call from Sarah, the Japanese Coast Guard sent a plane to assess the situation and is now sending a boat to pick Sarah up on Friday pm JST, 8th June, 2012. A Coast Guard plane is staying overhead to keep an eye on Sarah.
At this stage, no further details can be confirmed but we will post further information as and when it becomes available.

手漕ぎボート・ガリバー号で北太平洋を単独横断中のセーラは台風3号の直撃を受け、ガリバー号が数回転覆する被害を受けました。詳細な被害状況はまだわかっていませんが、事故後のセーラ本人との交信によると彼女自身は無事とのことです。
セーラからの緊急連絡を受けた海上保安庁ではすでに航空機による状況確認を終えており、現在現地に向って航行中の船艇による保護を日本時間の2012年6月8日 (金) の午後に予定しています。海上保安庁船による保護が行われるまでの間、海上保安庁では彼女の安全確保のためガリバー号の上空に航空機を巡回待機させています。
現時点で確認の取れている情報は以上となりますが、新たな情報が入り次第お伝えさせていただきます。

Heard a brief mention of Sarah + storm on Radio 2 this morning. So sad to hear about damage to Gulliver but hopefully he can be mended and get back out there again. Hang on in there Sarah!

Really sorry to hear Gulliver’s been damaged although I’m glad you’re safe. You must be desperately disappointed.
So glad that you are safe and ok but saddenned this has happenned. We are all behind you and thinking of you and of course your Mum, Micheal and Matt. Good to know the coastguard are on the way to pick you up. The courage and strength you have shown whilst enduring this storm shows us all what amazing talents and tenacity you have. So glad to know that Sarah is safe, and in good hands! This journey is too epic to be stopped by a tropical storm. Gulliver is awesome as well. I’m sure that some repair here and there, and we’ll be seeing Sarah and Gulliver set off again.
Like all things before the success, it’s a trial, a test, a warm up.
I, along with many others, will be waiting for you in Vancouver, Sarah.
What’s currently unknown is the extent of the damage and whether there’s a boat builder / engineer travelling along with the coast guard to assess the situation at sea. Does this mean Sarah will be heading back to Japan for maybe a month while Gulliver get patched up?
So delighted that the rescue services are so active in saving this very brave girl !! We have NOT heard the last of Sarah. !!

Bad news, but not as bad as the worst I was fearing. When I read about what typhoons are and can do I was utterly terrified for you from 6000 miles away.
