Feeling drained and a bit soggy – not surprised after a 360 degree cheese rolling session in Happy Socks!! Tough it out girl, so very close now, so much effort put in to this point, not surprised you have kept so healthy for so long. With a good night’s sleep and a calmer morning, you will be refreshed again. Look out to the horizon for those pink and blue pedaloes….we’re coming to help you in to shore. Now where’s me wet suit, crash helmet and happy socks???? Big hugs xxx

  4. Ray Girard says:

My dear Sarah, …A ?uestion for one of my favourite humans: When your continue your journey, will you be rowing a little further before jumping on the cycle to head across Alaska and down the West coast? I’d assume you’d have to. And Have you found heated storage for ‘Happy Socks’ for the interrum?

To borrow a hockey-based saying by one of our comedian TV stars:

“Keep your stick on the ice.”

    We’re all pullin’ for ya’.

    • Home Team says:

Replying on Sarahs behalfs – Hi Ray, Sarah will head back out in the Spring with her kayak and kayak from where she landed to Alaska mainland, then will start the cycle. As for Happy Socks, she will be shipped back to the UK to have some TLC ahead of the Atlantic leg.

  5. Linda, Cambridge says:

Hm – capsize, cold, damp, if not say wet, tired, lacking in sleep – no wonder you’re not feeling at your best in body and in spirit. Keep strong and hope for sunshine and favourable winds. Not too long to go now………..

  6. Chris Nolan says:

Hopefully the “roll” did not do any damage! Let’s get that 258 miles behind ya so you can get warm, rested, well-fed, and ready to head home for the winter season!
This “crazy place” (Alaska) is a wonderful place! Never been to Adak, but it is small. Population is a little over 300 folks there. I’m sure someone will provide a hot (well-deserved) bath for you!
Keep your spirts on the upside and row when you can. Let Chimpy entertain you! 😉

    Hi Sarah

So close now … keep your pecker up!

One question and one idea … Q. Are the blue dots on the yellow line at roughly fixed time periods, so if the dots are far apart you are speeding along and if they are close together you are proceeding slowly ? Or maybe when you are cabin bound you just press the tracking button more often ? 🙂

Idea – when I was a kid we had some hand warmers that used lighter fuel to glow in your pocket for several hours. Drying out and keeping warm seems to be quite an issue for you, so maybe for the next row you could find some warming devices that could be used to dry out the bed etc … just a few liters of fuel would give a lot of heat potential…

May you have fine rowing special lady !

  8. Gigi Walentiny says:

I hope that whatever has you feeling poorly moves on quickly! No time for a case of the sicklies when there’s a chain of islands calling to you! Now, if only we could get the weather to cooperate for a bit and leave the capsizes, gales and contrary seas out of the picture as well!!

May tomorrow bring you sunshine in every way!

  9. BPC says:

Hope you are feeling chipper again soon. How rotten to have succumbed but at least the finish line is in sight (on the map!) – you can make it! Thinking of you, x

  10. David Moss says:

I watched you paddle off from HMS PRESIDENT in March 2011 and was in awe then of what you were setting out to do. I am still in awe of what you have achieved and the sheer guts that you are displaying in the face of adversity. Stick with it Sarah and may the ocean gods be with you.

  11. William J Dushkin says:

Hey Sara keep up the great journey! I live on the next island which is called Atka in the Aleutian chain of islands. I have a few relatives that live in Adak, innocent, pj, and one of my friends Agafon. They are great people and will be willing to help you out somehow. Godspeed on the last few miles to Adak! Keep it up, I like your optimizom (sp).

  12. Sorry your morning roll wasn’t of the edible kind: sounds like you need some tlc (and a hot bath of course). But Adak’s getting closer 🙂 So here’s to a springy salt strokes and a chirpy cheerful Chimpy.

  13. ian says:
