Sarah – (please stick with this – it is relevant to your latest pod cast) -your Godmother Tricia and I obviously share many genes being sisters and one unfortunate one is the propensity to get Dupuytrens disease in our hands – I think she has had about six operations and I was faced with operations 6,7 and 8 at the beginning of the year. (Too much trauma for the hand to be done at once). As gardening, embroidery and golf are my chief occupations by choice, depression threatened to descend. So I thought I would do something positive in between operations not involving my hand – and I am doing a sponsored pilgrims walk from Winchester to Canterbury. I am raising money for our Church House Community building in the centre of our village. I am doing it on separate days and usually by myself and make it a point of honour to go back exactly to where I left off for the next walk. So – to get to the point of all this – yesterday I walked about nine miles and it was the first day I have not really enjoyed as it was mizzling (is that a word) with rain most of the time and it was a case of putting on and taking off waterproofs. I was walking from Westerham in Kent to Otford and some of the time I was very close to the dreaded M25 and had to walk along some roads. But having heard your pod cast I now feel much better about it – I know that I could not stand being shut in your tiny cabin and appreciate how lucky I was to be outside and miss the train home! If you had time, battery and interest you could read my blog (a real step in to the 21st century for me) at http://averilwalk.wordpress.com
Keep going – love Averil
A ditty I found to spur you on whilst enjoying all those DVDs and books in your snug with a G&T:xx
Whether the weather be fine,
Or whether the weather be not,
Whether the weather be cold,
Or whether the weather be hot,
We’ll weather the weather
Whatever the weather
Whether we like it or not.
So think about this encounter from the Albatross’ point of view…..”And then, children, you will never guess what happened…..I came across this shell like thing. Rather large! Much bigger than a turtle. Seemed to have some sort of creature loose inside it. I thought it was some sort of apparition – but the creature made noises at me and clicked things……I sat on it for a while, but it wasn’t very comfortable….very confining, not like sailing on top of the wind….”
You have every right to have a moan how many of us would put up with the condition you have with the weather etc. You are doing so well. Keep your chin up and hopefully soon you will be back rowing again.
The pups, Baylor and Casey Sparkles, and I played a rip roaring game of chase and fetch in the yard this evening! Just after sundown but before the biting bugs came out! We’re in now, but they’re continuing their rough-housing and shenanigans!
I hope tomorrow brings a bit of calm to the seas about you so that you, too, can enjoy some fresh air and shenanigans! 🙂
And by the way – if you were moaning in that phonecast…that’s the most pitiful imitation of moaning I’ve ever heard!! We’re along for the journey – whatever it brings! So you need to feel free to vent away!
I feel inspired to get off my ,,,, to go out into beautiful Perth weather, cool but sunny, and take my dog for a walk,.. She won’t expect a mile but she will get that at least. You make me think how lucky I am having the freedom to do that, and will try not to worry about the complaints that people make about trivial things.
Hope you get out on deck soon.
Thanks Sarah.

Didn’t manage a 1 mile walk but did spend the afternoon in an airless office talking about the benefits of outdoor learning! Here’s to post-incarceration rowing Sarah – it’s quite an impressive cat’s cradle GPS trail you’re weaving out there!

Did the mile walk on your behalf, Sarah. Sunny with clouds, about 18 degrees C.
Nice walk, thank you for the suggestion!
Alan 🙂
