Day 6 at sea: Riding out the storms but well on her way!

A note  from the team: We’ve just spoken to Sarah and she is making really good progress, despite the very challenging conditions.  As many of you will have heard from her Phonecasts, the weather has not always been on her side – strong winds, heavy rain and large waves have pretty much been the norm for Sarah so far, but she continues to clock up some impressive miles. She is also very much celebrating the triumphs, not least the wildlife – she has seen whales, sharks and a favourite of hers, the short-tailed albatross.

Just in case you missed these on Flickr, we thought we’d share some lovely shots of Sarah’s departure from Choshi Marina, Japan last Sunday – taken by her good friend, Tracy Johnson.

In traditional fashion, Sarah cracks open the Fizz before she sets off

And she's off!

And finally, we’d also like to send out a gentle reminder to everyone that Sarah is hoping to raise £100,000 for four very worthwhile charities – CoppaFeel!, WaterAid, the MNDA and The Jubilee Sailing Trust.  So if you’d like to give a few pennies (or a bit more), please visit her Charity page for all the details.

That’s all from us for now . We’ll keep you posted with any new developments, but you can of course receive up to the minute news from Sarah via Twitter – @SarahOuten – and by having a listen to her fascinating Phonecasts live from the ocean.
